Flower Girl

Bryan's cousin, Julie, is getting married on Saturday. Zoey is a flower girl--the oldest, out of three, little flower girls, to be exact. Which is going to be a total riot, since Zoey claims great excitement with the IDEA of being a flower girl, yet remains clueless about the actual specifics of her job description. Because every time I try to start a conversation about walking down an aisle in a pretty dress without Mommy or Daddy, but Mommy and Daddy will be watching...we get bogged down at 'pretty dress' and the conversation is pretty much over.

So yesterday we went shoe shopping to find PRETTY SHOES! to go with Zoey's PRETTY DRESS! for the big day. The PRETTY DRESS! is white with some type of butterfly applique that Zoey is quite enamored with. My intention was to find some lovely white shoes to go with the lovely white dress, but halfway down the kids shoe aisle at Target, Zoey spotted the pastel pink flats. With sparkles. SPARKLES, MOMMY.

There was no talking her away from those sparkly pink shoes, no matter how hard I tried to sell her on the sparkly white twins sitting next to them on the shelf. Like any self-respecting woman who spies a pair of shoes she just can't live without, she was going home with the pink and the sparkles, end of story.

So I called Julie. From the shoe aisle. The following is why I love and adore this bride-to-be:

Me: Listen, Julie. Here's the deal. We're shoe shopping and I don't know if you care what Zoey wears on Saturday, but she found these pastel pink sparkly flats, and I can't talk her out of them. But if you want her to wear white I'll totally get those inst--

Julie: *squeal* Oooh, pink! I'm going to have Zoey wear a light green sash around her dress, and I LOVE pink and green together!

Me: Okay, are you sure? Because I WILL make her get white if that's what you want...

Julie: I think Zoey should follow her heart! If those pink shoes are speaking to her, that's what she should wear!

Awesome. Totally awesome.
