This evening's trip to the library was particularly eventful, as we discovered the kid's CD section and brought home a bag full of booty including another Dora CD (because the one wretched album I have burned on my iPod is driving me to the brink of insanity and ANYTHING new would be welcome), two audio recordings of Shel Silverstein poems and Dr. Suess stories, and one disc full of mid-90's one-hit-wonders covering songs from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood which proved to be a bit too elevatorish for the both of us.
This in addition to the standard issue fresh supply of new books to read and new VHS tapes and DVDs to watch.
So, after dinner, a round of baking peanut butter cookies, and a bath, we settled on the couch for popcorn and movies. Anyone familiar with the Clifford DVDs understands they are chock full of 32 previews and just as many short cartoons. The bartering always begins about halfway through the previews:
Zoey: Can we watch four tonight?
Me: Oooh, I don't know about four. It's getting late. We can definitely watch two.
Zoey: Three! Let's watch three! Because that's how old I am!
Me: Okay. Three.
Zoey: (10 minutes later) Mommy. (Staring straight ahead at the screen, fistful of popcorn aimed for her mouth)
Me: What.
Zoey: I looked at my pretend watch. We have time to watch four tonight.
Me: *snicker*
Lucky girl, her Auntie Rikki called midway through episode three, which earned her a whisper-hissed "you may watch ONE MORE and that's it!"
Her smile looked a little smug for my liking. But I did get a whole adult conversation in, so I'm chalking it up as a win-win.

Ha! Awesome. Ask her where she got this pretend watch with all the perfect times on it. I want one.
We barter every night. "OK, but can I stay up until Rubbadubbers is over?" Most nights I acquiesce, to his delight. But to Will's credit, when the show is over he turns off the TV and comes and tells me. Not that I expect *that* to continue forever! :)
We're big fans of Clifford here too. But, I'm an even BIGGER fan of adult conversation! Thanks for listening the the bitch session!
